Is Working with GEICO Easy?
Looking back over its history, GEICO has had some instances in which it has stepped up to the plate to meet the needs of its policyholders and others filing claims against their policies. However, the company is not much different than other larger insurers today. Unfortunately, it is very common for the company to undervalue claims, almost routinely. That is why it is so valuable for you to work with an experienced Florida attorney if you feel you’re owed money from this company.
Many people have had good experiences with the claim adjusters at GEICO – they are friendly and seem like trustworthy people. The fact is, the company has good customer service (that’s why it is so large, of course). However, there are multiple instances where the company has grossly failed to properly evaluate claims
What Others Are Seeing
When you meet with our team, we’ll discuss your case at length. We’ll help you to get the claim settlement you deserve. Here are some key examples of cases recently in the news about GEICO’s claims.
Tallahassee Bad Faith Claim
In June of 2017, the Florida Supreme Court decided to take up a case involving a bad faith insurance claim against GEICO. The Palm Beach County case began in 2006 when James Harvey, a policyholder with GEICO, got into a car accident that killed John Potts. GEICO sent Potts a check for $100,000, the amount of Harvey’s policy, a few days after the individual’s death.
However, a jury awarded the Potts estate $8.47 million. Harvey filed a lawsuit against GEICO (which is being appealed now) stating that the insurer acted in bad faith by failing to meet the estate attorney’s need for information about his personal and business assets and whether he was acting in the course of business.
Uninsured Motorist Lawsuit
Another instance occurred in 2015. A Florida couple, David and Carrie Zucker, were awarded a $14.5 million jury verdict for their claim against GEICO over an uninsured motorist lawsuit. During a crash in Florida, an oil tank truck careened into the path of the Zuckers’ vehicle, causing David Zucker spinal and other injuries. The couple claimed they were owed more money because the others involved did not have adequate insurance.
Don’t believe everything GEICO claims. They, along with others, are notoriously “good” at advertising and marketing their service.
Considering Filing a Lawsuit Against GEICO?
If you believe you are owed more money or that GEICO acted unfairly, you will find the process of filing a claim with the company burdensome. They are experts in trying to reduce the value of such claims, and as a result, it can be hard for an individual to obtain the fair compensation owed to them.
If you decide to file a claim against GEICO and things do not go well or you are turned down, do not stop. Instead, work closely with our team to move your case forward. GEICO currently has several in-house attorneys working for them to mitigate such lawsuits and, in some cases, re-evaluate the injuries and recommend larger settlements. It is never recommended to work through these in-house attorneys, even if they increase your settlement offer. That generally means there’s more on the table!
