We hope you will never use these tips, but if you ride on 2 wheels in Miami, you will inevitably crash. Our firm developed these tips from our years of experience in riding bikes and representing those that have been injured.
CHECK YOURSELF
Don’t rush to stand up. If you’re alone take a second to gather your thoughts, and inspect your body from head to toe. Just because you’re not bleeding, that doesn’t mean your not injured. Aside from road rash, the most common injuries are fractured collarbones, and head injuries. Check your helmet for damage. If your helmet is cracked call for help, and seek medical attention to make sure you didn’t suffer a traumatic brain injury.
STAND UP
Are you able to stand up without assistance? If yes, take a couple of moments and consume a sugary drink is possible. Next, see if you can get on your bike and pedal safely. For example, swelling of the knee may prevent you from being able to pedal. Don’t be a hero -it won’t loosen up. Are you able to hold the handlebars? Can you support your weight? If the answer to any of these questions is NO, you know what to do-call for help.
CHECK YOUR BIKE
Sounds silly, but just because you are able to ride away from the scene, that doesn’t mean your bike is. If your frame is made of carbon fiber make sure you inspect it for hairline cracks. As bicycle accident lawyers, our firm handles all property damage claims for our clients. We require insurance companies to replace our client’s bikes, and we won’t settle for less. Carbon fiber cannot be repaired.
TAKE YOUR PHONE AND TAKE PICTURES
Always ride with your cellphone. If you are in an area with bad cell service, let your spouse or friend know your route for the day. If you’re able, take pictures of the accident scene and your injuries. While not the first thing you should do, pictures are very helpful in resolving disputes and often are helpful to prove both liability and damages.
