Ford F-150’s from years 2011, 2012 or 2013 are the biggest part of the first recall which includes 1.48 million vehicles.
Issue #1: The Automatic Transmission
The reasons for the recall are problems with the automatic transmission.
Ford has admitted the automatic transmission shift problem was the cause of the five crashes. In its release Ford stated that the transmission “may experience an intermittent loss of the transmission output speed sensor signal to the power train control module, potentially resulting in a temporary unintended downshift into the first gear”. Ford acknowledged that “depending upon vehicle speed, a down shift to first gear without warning could result in a loss of vehicle control increasing the risk of the crash”. The recall involves trucks that were built in Dearborn from April 28, 2010 thru October 28, 2013 or Kansas City from May 18, 2010 thru November 18, 2013.
Issue #2: Door Latch Problems
The second recall involves Lincoln Continentals from 2017, 2018 and 2019 which have potential door latch problems. This involves about 28,200 Lincoln Continentals built at the Flat Rock plant.
Issue #3: Blank Instrument Panels
The last recall only involved 4200 vehicles and includes certain 2019 Mustangs, Lincoln Nautilus and Lincoln Navigators as a result of a blank instrument panel after start up.
