Bicyclist Killed on Flamingo Road In Sunrise, FL

On Behalf of | Jan 5, 2011 | Bike Accidents

A bicyclist riding northbound on Flamingo Road was struck and killed early Tuesday morning in a collision with a car.

The Sun Sentinel reported that the bicyclist, whose identity was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

There are two things you have to consider when riding during early morning or late night hours:
1. Seeing the road
2. Being seen by motor vehicles

This accident occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. Thus, a key issue is whether the cyclist had proper lighting on his bicycle.

On streets that are not well lit cyclist need lights that make them visible. The best lights for this are xenon strobes. Cyclist put a red or amber xenon strobe on the back of their bike and a clear xenon strobe on the front.

As a Bicycle Accident Attorney it is no surprise that the most dangerous state to cycle in is Florida with 119 bicycle related fatalities in 2007. California was a close second with 109 deaths.
