Miami is Dangerous For Pedestrians

July 12, 2022/in Personal Injury /by Mark Kaire

In what comes as no surprise, Florida in the 2nd deadliest state for pedestrians.  Consistent therewith, Miami Dade is the 14th most dangerous city in the country for pedestrians.

Attis point, walking in Florida is hazardous to your health.

Miami-Dade and Broward counties are among the most dangerous places to be a pedestrian in the United States. According to the 2022 “Dangerous By Design” report from Smart Growth America and the National Complete Streets Coalition,  Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach ranked No. 14 as the metropolis where a pedestrian is most likely to be struck and killed by a driver.  Not to be outdone, Daytona Beach-Deltona-Ormond Beach earned the  No. 1 ranking as the deadliest place to walk.

So which state is the deadliest, you ask?  That prestigious title goes to New Mexico.

While distracted driving and reckless behavior is a problem, the real culprit is poor road design.  Pedestrian friendly states design their roads for safety, we design ours for speed.

Florida averaged 3.22 pedestrian deaths per year per 100,000 residents for a total of 3,420 from 2016 through 2020.

Please see the interactive Smart Growth America report.
