Lane Diving Accident on I-95 Causes Serious Injuries

Lane Diving Accidents on I-95 continue at an alarming rate.  This, despite the FDOT’s, assurance that their new “plan” would help reduce lane diving.

The latest accident happened Sunday,  November 6th, 2016, at about 12:15 p.m.  The accident shutdown I-95 for about 5 hours.

The accident began when a vehicle (who fled the scene) traveled from the express lanes through the delineators into the general purpose lanes.  This vehicle caused Luis Castro, who was heading south in a Nissan Altima on I-95 in the inside general purpose lane to abruptly slowdown. That’s when Vincent Turner Jr., 62, who was in a Toyota 4Runner, hit the left rear of Castro’s car. The impact caused the Altima to rotate clockwise across the southbound lanes.

The 4Runner rotated counter clockwise and was struck on its left side by a GMC pickup truck driven by Daniel Hernandez, 40. The 4Runner overturned in the express lanes and caught fire, according to the FHP.

Turner was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in critical condition. His passenger, Kelly Horner, 48, was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in serious condition.

Castro suffered minor injuries and was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital. Also in Castro’s car: Angel Pavilat, 42, who was taken to Memorial Regional in serious condition; William Castro, 10, who was in critical condition and Miriam Sanchez, 47, who was in critical condition.

The lane diver was unscathed and fled the scene.

We send our hopes for a speedy recovery to all those involved, and again ask the FDOT to take the necessary actions to install permanent barricades that separate the express lanes from the general purpose lanes.
