The New Year Begins With Yet Another Fatal Bicycle Accident

On Behalf of | Jan 1, 2017 | Bike Accidents

A new year, but the same old story .  A cyclist was killed in a hit and run accident early this morning. The cyclist, Christopher Mohr was struck as he rode his bike along State Road 84 just east of the intersection at Indian Trace in Weston. Mohr, who was riding in the bike lane, was taken to Broward Health Medical Center and died from his injuries.

Detectives are searching for the driver of a white, older-model vehicle with damage to the front passenger side headlight and windshield.

Anyone with information is asked to contact BSO at 954-321-4842. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477). Anonymous tips that lead to an arrest are eligible for a reward of up to $3,000.

The statistics don’t lie, Florida leads the nation in per capita bicycle fatalities.

As Bicycle accident attorneys, we see these unfortunate accidents happening over and over again.  Yet, nothing changes.  The increased punishment for hit and run drivers,  thanks to the Aaron Cohen life protection act was a substantial step forward, but we still need much enforcement.

Criminals can only be punished if they are caught.   Moreover, we need better road design and protected bike lanes.
